Hepatitis E Virus (HEV) IgG

Test Code: 99125

Cpt Code:

86790 (x1)

Clinical Utility

Hepatitis E Virus (HEV) IgG is transmitted from oral exposure to HEV-contaminated fecal material. HEV is more prevalent in developing countries where clean water and sanitation are not commonplace. HEV antibody testing is important in cases where other hepatitis causes have been excluded, since HEV infection is clinically indistinguishable from other types of acute viral hepatitis. Presence of HEV IgG indicates current or previous HEV infection. The HEV IgG is a sandwich immunoassay utilizing recombinant HEV antigen.

Procedure

This HEV IgG enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is a qualitative sandwich immunoassay. The performance characteristics of this assay have been determined by Viracor-IBT Laboratories. This test has not been cleared or approved for diagnostic use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Qualitative. (Postitive/Negative).
