Viracor Eurofins opens its heart to those in need with the same enthusiasm we apply to our business. Each month, Viracor randomly selects two associates and highlights a charity of their choice during our Company meeting. Viracor then makes a donation to these charities on the associate’s behalf. Throughout the year the Company (driven by our associate-led Volunteer Committee) promotes and provides opportunities in which we can impact our community. Examples include participating in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program during the holiday season, donating for “Socktober,” to help the homeless, and forming a team for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light the Night walk, to name a few.
Our passionate associates have banded together to form multiple committees focused on fostering a positive culture and environment both inside and outside of our walls.
As mentioned above, this committee meets regularly to coordinate our annual calendar of volunteer events and fundraising opportunities. Some of our initiatives have included collecting crayons for Children’s Mercy Hospital, serving meals at Ronald McDonald House and donating time at Harvesters.
Committed to leaving less of an environmental footprint, Viracor Eurofins’ Green Team is constantly looking for ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. As a result, Viracor has transitioned to state-of-the-art, energy-saving storage freezers, is reducing non-biodegradable waste by no longer using Styrofoam in our breakrooms and is removing toxins by using Ozone cleaners throughout our buildings.
This group of associates is working to promote a positive culture by encouraging peer to peer and departmental recognition of our associates’ hard work and to celebrate when someone goes above and beyond to make a difference. Whether it’s a “Thank You” card or a jar of candy, this committee believes a little can go a long way in supporting each other in our efforts.
Commitment to Transplant
As a specialty lab committed to partnering with transplant professionals to solve challenging diagnostic problems, we see firsthand how critical the need is to encourage organ and tissue donation. Viracor supports the Gift of Life and its mission to be a national model for the support, awareness and success of organ, eye and tissue donation through education, mentoring and collaboration with partners and individuals in the transplant community. Throughout the years, Viracor Eurofins associates have volunteered their time and expertise, and/or provided monetary support for various endeavors like the “Go See Do” event in Kansas City to help raise awareness for this cause that is near and dear to our hearts. Viracor Eurofins’ scientists frequently interact with and give talks at area high schools and universities to generate interest and excitement in Laboratory Science. Viracor Eurofins recruits local high school students with an aptitude for science and math and spends a day in the laboratory with them, teaching them about molecular based science and infectious diseases. Each semester, students from the University of Kansas Molecular Diagnostic Department and Wichita State University Medical Laboratory Scientist Program spend dedicated time in our laboratory gaining real world experience in a diagnostic laboratory environment, working directly with Viracor’s clinical scientists.
When Viracor was founded, once a week the President and CEO would walk around the facility with a cart full of goodies –candy bars, soda pop, and all different kinds of treats. Dubbed “CART”, the tradition has evolved over time into a once per week perk for associates when they can take a short break to interact with co-workers and enjoy a light afternoon snack. What’s not to love about a chance to collaborate with other departments while re-fueling before getting back to the important work for the patients we serve?
